Stories from the Studio: Rachel Moodie

This week we’re talking to Rachel Moodie. Rachel is an artist, designer, writer, curator, maker and mum. With a background in fine art, arts marketing, graphic and web design, textiles, curation, illustration agency management and event co-ordination.

“I paint, collage, teach, write, curate and design. There are many strings to my bow and you will often find me juggling multiple balls and wearing many creative hats!”

Rachel’s artworks are intuitive mixed media paintings on board or canvas. With many layers in each painting, using acrylics, inks, pastels, paint pens, spray paint, pencil and more! Rachel also creates analogue collages that are amalgamations of paper ephemera, magazines, old books, old photos, modern photography and mixed media processes such as gelli printing, oil pastel, cold wax and stitch.

Rachel will be creating large mixed media works at the PAINT THE TOWN Laneway Festival in Ward Lane, April 15 from 12pm to 5pm!

Rachel also has her own Podcast! “My inner critic is called Gertrude and she’s my podcasting assistant on my perfectly imperfect podcast; ‘Casting the Inner Critic'”. Check out Rachel’s Podcast HERE
In 2017 Rachel released a book on motherhood and creativity called ‘The Artful Mum’ which is a series of interviews with fabulous artist mothers.
