Stories from the Studio: Sara Phemister

This week we’re talking to artist Sara Phemister. Sara  is an artist who lives in Yass.

“I have been consumed with drawing in the company of a dog since I was a child. That obsession has only intensified. I am endlessly inspired by capturing and illuminating daily life. My dog asleep in the morning sun, objects on a shelf, my now adult children absorbed in a task. It is a collection of these moments that I want to remember.

“My sketch book is most often the starting point for the paintings I make – drawing is the basis of my practice. I paint in oil, onto board and am increasingly interested in the application of paint – how it suggests line, light and form. “

Sara is currently exhibiting at the newly oppened Tyger Gallery in Yass, in a group show titled Bryter, from the 23rd of March to the 24th of April. Featuring 10 outstanding artists from the Southern Tablelands and beyond. The art reflects on a hope and optimism for the future, and days that are Bryter than dark times of the past. Bryter is about the things that sustain us and keep us going, the steadying stuff in unsteady times, and the hope we all hold that encourages us to keep putting one foot in front of the other.

Bryter openned Thursday night March 23! See some of the images below taken at the openning ..
