I began writing as a way to preserve. Poetry became a way to record memories of my childhood and to preserve moments with my own children—almost as a way to give back to them one day when they would be old enough to understand. But more than that, it became a way to write the landscape, to question our treatment of the environment, to preserve the richness of language and the way we explore our inner emotions through deep contemplation and the workings of the creative process.
