Stories from the Studio: Peter Ramm

This week at Stories from the Studio STA caught up with Poet and teacher Peter Ramm! Peter is based in the Southern Highlands has been widely published in Australian academic and literary journals and has won multiple awards for both his poetry and education writing. Recently winning the prestigious Manchester Poetry Prize. Peter has also been shortlisted in Australian and International poetry competitions and been the recipient of residencies.

I began writing as a way to preserve. Poetry became a way to record memories of my childhood and to preserve moments with my own children—almost as a way to give back to them one day when they would be old enough to understand. But more than that, it became a way to write the landscape, to question our treatment of the environment, to preserve the richness of language and the way we explore our inner emotions through deep contemplation and the workings of the creative process.

Here Peter reads his poem,  “September Tercets” which is dedicated to his wife Ashley.

Peter recently released a new book! A collection of poems titled Waterlines. The cover art was painted by Peter’s wife Ashley (Cover art pictured below). You can purchase Waterlines HERE
