The STA AiR project is an ongoing commitment to offer residences for Artists to be inspired by the STA Region. Our home is full of extraordinary places, people and opportunities with unlimited potential for Artists to be inspired and get creative.

The STA AiR program is open to all professional Artists from all disciplines, individually or in groups who live within the STA Region*. The program embraces Visual Artists, Performers, Writers, Musicians and multi-disciplinary practises and supports new work, research and collaborations inspired by the host venue and location.
*The STA region is made up of our seven contributing local government areas of; Goulburn Mulwaree, Hilltops, Queanbeyan-Palerang, Upper Lachlan Shire, Wingecarribee Shire, Wollondilly Shire and Yass Valley.
Ang Hart is the Artist in Residence at Robert’s Shark Tank in Young
between Fri 3 – Tues 21 May 2024
Time at Robert’s Shark Tank will inspire Ang to continue her research into Pop Art (including the work of Andy Warhol. She will be especially focussed on Roberts collections of Chuppa Chupps, Coca Cola and Arnott’s biscuit tin to create a series of pop art-inspired work.
While there Ang will also create a portrait of Robert and his family, incorporating images of their own handpicked special relics from the museum and emphasising the legacy that Robert and his wife have created for his son’s family and their granddaughter.
‘I am keen to include a reference to their dedication to the IGA supermarket in Young, perhaps painting their IGA nametags that form part of the Shark Tank’s display.’
Ang is also set to host a free creative workshop for community members to be inspired by the colours, shapes and objects on display at the Museum to create their own painting. Details and bookings are below.

About Ang
Ang Hart is a multifaceted artist, psychologist, and passionate advocate for social change, residing on a picturesque farm in the Hilltops region of NSW. She maintains a deep connection to the vibrant mining towns of Cobar in New South Wales and Kalgoorlie, Western Australia. Ang’s artistic journey is characterised by a profound exploration of rhythm, disruption, and the complexities of the human experience.
Anghart holds a master’s of creative industries with a focus on interdisciplinary visual arts practice. Her latest research “Rising from the Dust: (in)visible Women in Mining” explores the issues women face in the mining industry depicted by 12 portraits.
Her passion for gestural and action painting techniques illuminates her vibrant and introspective works, offering insights into mood, emotion, and the intricate tapestry of life. In an uncertain world, Ang finds hope and meaning in every piece she creates, weaving together her personal journey, mental health struggles, and experiences as a psychologist, Mother, wife and creative. Her profound insights into the human psyche, coupled with her commitment to community and shared knowledge, resonate deeply with audiences, inspiring courage, wisdom, and hope.
Drawing inspiration from the expressive chaos of Jackson Pollock and her own lived child and adulthood survivor experience, Ang’s “Flurry of the Confused Brain” series offers a raw and introspective glimpse into the tumultuous journey of recovery. Through vibrant hues, bold strokes, and layered textures, she navigates the dichotomy of despair and hope, inviting viewers to confront their own inner struggles and societal stigmas surrounding addiction and mental health.
Through her powerful storytelling, engagement with rhythm and disruption, and unwavering commitment to community and shared knowledge, Ang Hart invites us all to explore, reflect, and grow together. She encourages viewers to ask deeper questions about themselves, their emotions, and the world around them, fostering a sense of community, empathy, and collective healing

Join STA Artist in residence AngHart for a fun Pop Art inspired workshop for all ages (children to be accompanied)
From 10am – Free entry over the morning to visit Ang at Robert’s Shark Tank and get inspired by the collection and displays. Come anytime across the two hours.
1pm-3pm Creative workshop get creative at Southern Cross Cinema in Young.
An exclusive “through an artist lens” visit to Robert’s Shark Tank to take in the depth and breadth of Robert and his family’s curated collection of relics from the past, iconic branded merchandise, sporting and Hollywood memorabilia, and so much more! In the afternoon participants will be encouraged to use images and memories from their Shark Tank visit to create their very own version of Pop Art using acrylics and mixed media on canvas.
Experimentation using varied media, texture and colour is encouraged. A projector will be available for participants.
All are welcome. This workshop is inclusive of all abilities and levels of experience. Please bring a mobile phone or device (e.g. digital camera or i-pad) to collect your images in the morning. Places are limited so get you spot now.

STA AiR General Guidelines
Guidelines for the STA Artist in Residence program. Further information can be gained by contacting STA.
(EOIs are currently closed. The following information is listed to support Artists to be aware of how the program works)
- STA AiRs are self directed and may include optional public programs as proposed by the Artist.
- Artists are asked to consider the unique qualities of the host venue and place and consider how the location supports their practice and/or project.
- Artists will be responsible for their own travel to, during and from the residency.
- The residency location is in regional NSW and public transport options are limited. Transport and transfers are the responsibility of the Artist/s and as such STA recommend use of a private or hire vehicle is an important consideration.
- Studio/workspace is provided at the host venue during the residency
- The Artists/s will be self directed during the residency with access to connect to STA staff for support as needed.
- The STA region experiences extremes in temperature. Hot in Summer and Cold in Winter. Artists are advised to pack for all weather possibilities.

The STA AiR program is open to all professional Artists from all disciplines, individually or in groups who live in one of the seven contributing council areas* that make up the STA region. The program supports new work, research and collaborations inspired by the host venue and location.
