Stories from the Studio: Cara Robinson

STA have been following the journey of Cara Robinson as she brings her play Through the Embers to the stage at the Leider Theatre.

Through the Embers follows the journey of two eleven-year-old best friends overcoming trauma and finding pathways to healing through friendship and connection. A heartfelt exploration of recovery and growth.

Sometimes when things burn, new and beautiful things grow.

Cara is a creative and educator living in Goulburn. We visited Cara in her classroom at South Grafton Public School to talk about the play and the multi layered process to bring it to the stage.

In 2024 Cara was awarded a Veolia Mulwaree Trust Creative Arts Scholarship to develop the play, so in 2025 it was ready to go into production at the Lieder as part of the 2025 local writers showcase supported by the STA Country Arts Support Program.

Content Warning:
Through the Embers deals with the fact that unfortunately, all too often young people are forced to contend with adult issues, due to assaults perpetrated against them. While there are no physical depictions of such assaults in the play, there are discussions about such assaults and their impact on the lives of the survivors, their families and friends.
