Gail Neuss, Sun 2020
This form part of a large commissioned piece
I started painting this work whilst the Country was experiencing drought, however things took a turn for the worst and our beautiful landscape was ravaged by fire, much was lost including lives. Just as our Nation was rebuilding, we were hit with a pandemic not seen in this country before, a lockdown was introduced across the world. We were all now experiencing isolation, no work, no family visits, no shopping. SO as I painted many emotions were in my head, I was sad at the loss of Country, human lives and wildlife. I started this work over many times as my heart, soul and spirt where broken. I then remembered the beauty of the sun, trees, blue skies, rivers. The sun shines and is always there…it never leaves

As I sat on my verandah watching over country and the setting sun, i could see spot fires burning among the mountain darkness. I was looking directly at Mount Clear in Namadgi National Park, red embers, glowing circles of earth on fire , where mobs once travelled and cared for this country of mine.
