Stories from the Studio: The Southern Highlands Writers’ Festival
The iconic Empire Cinema in Bowral was a great place to meet with Michaela Bolzan the Creative Director of the Southern Highlands Writers Festival. Excitement is building for the festival which will happen at the Empire 25 – 27 July.
The program for this year’s Festival is brimming with author presentations, literary panel discussions, poetry recitals, author meet-and-greets, and even a film screening. Michaela has constructed an offering that fosters dialogue and showcases emerging and established Australian voices through structured events and open forums.
The event attracts a loyal following of readers and writers who anticipate the annual immersive literary encounter.
Now in its 14th year, the annual SHWF is features an incredible program of speakers including acclaimed biographer Dr Jacqueline Kent, Dr Lauren Samuelsson, Nikki Gemmell, filmmaker Sally Aitken and many more.

About Michaela
Michaela is a writer, producer, director and occasional actor, Michaela loves exploring creativity across various platforms. Michaela has a BA Hons (Drama) from the University of Newcastle and is a graduate of the National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA) Playwrights’ Studio.
This will be the 14th SHWF Michaela has programmed; she has also been the Artistic Director of the Rose Scott Women Writers’ Festival and the Canberra Writers’ Festival.
‘Every Little Thing’ by Australian filmmaker Sally Aitken is a compelling and uplifting documentary about the beauty of hummingbirds. On Friday 25th July from 7:30pm it will be screened, followed by a discussion with Sally. Get your TIX at the SHWF website
