STA is part of the statewide Regional Arts Network of organisations that work across Regional NSW

Around this time of year, the bush heads to the big smoke as members of the Regional Arts Network gather in Sydney with Regional Arts NSW.  This annual event is when the network comes together for a strategic review, planning and think tank meeting about the state of the arts across regional NSW.

Rose and Kev from STA met with staff members from 14 Regional Arts Organisations for two productive (and coffee-fuelled) days that also included training and information sessions from Creative Industry specialists.

Main themes of the meeting included the recent changes to the funding landscape through Create NSW that has left many creative organisations in regional NSW unfunded. It’s a very challenging environment that is taking its toll on our sector.

Expect to see some network wide advocacy that helps the wider community and our political decision makers better understand the true impact of arts in the regions and why an adequately funded Creative Industry sector is vital to healthy communities.

Other relevant and thought-provoking topics on the agenda were the constantly evolving landscape of project management and the looming influence of AI for artists. Makers and cultural orgs.

It was Kev’s first introduction to the RAN since joining STA a few weeks ago. In his word the meeting was akin to… ‘A crash course in staying ahead of the curve or at least understanding that there is a curve, even if it doesn’t look like a curve, but maybe has the characteristics of a straight line, that has curves… (coffee re-fuelling required)’.

The Creative Industries face many challenges in today’s economic climate and STA and our fellow RAN members will be on the front lines, working hard for our communities and advocating for a fair deal for the bush.

Through it all, what stood out the most for STA was the sheer value of connecting with like-minded organisations who “are in it, get it, and love it”. Sharing ideas, swapping stories (some inspirational, some facing adversity), and brainstorming is more than just necessary – it’s essential for the future of the arts in all of our regions.

RAN conversations and collaborations don’t just benefit individual member organisations. They ripple outward, feeding into the wider arts community we all support.

Regional Arts Network
Southern Tablelands Arts is proud to be one of the 15 Regional Arts Development Organisations (RADOs) across NSW that make up the Regional Arts Network (RAN). The network is made up of unique, innovative and passionate people who champion the arts and culture in their regions by providing support, programs and projects to those who live, work and play across regional NSW.

The RAN make huge positive impacts to our statewide cultural, both as individual organisations and as a united network that advocates for the importance and success of the Creative Industries in regional NSW. Each RAN member provides critical services responding to their unique communities.

Regional Arts NSW serves as our peak body and adds a statewide focus and strategic emphasis that benefits RAN members. RANSW hosts an easy portal and map that locates each of the 15 RAN member organisations. CHECK IT OUT.
