Vintage Caterina
I have been a committed Italophile for many years, regularly visiting the towns and smaller cities of northern Italy, each with a monthly antique market where I find the beautiful and unusual antique and vintage buttons that I then make into original pieces of jewellery.
It was the discovery of a nonna’s button tin at the ‘mercatino antiquariato’ in Gonzaga in 2011 that led me down this creative path – I had to bring these little treasures out of oblivion and the best way to do this was to wear them. I started experimenting with ways to mount buttons as brooches and to knot them on cords as necklaces. People admired my pieces when I wore them myself so Vintage Caterina came into being as a way of sharing these wearable treasures with those who appreciate style and creativity.
Vintage Caterina necklaces and brooches are one-off pieces made from original antique and vintage Italian buttons that I have personally selected on my travels in Italy.
