Stories from the Studio: Jo Caseley

This week we’re talking to singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, Jo Caseley! Jo is an emotive singer who transports her audience through all the feels.

Influenced by the clever wit of John Prine, the yesteryear of Gillian Welch and the honest soundscapes of Paul Kelly and Kasey Chambers, her style sees her driving with one hand on the wheel at all times, steering steadily down her own lane. She cut her teeth busking the streets of Kings Cross and landed her first gig in a smoky blues bar next to a strip club, miles away from the glitz of today’s music scene where her humble, authentic stylings are appreciated.

You can see Jo Caseley live, along with previous artists of the month, Dave Debs & Anthony Snape at the next 100% HOME-GROWN CONCERT #6, on Saturday March 18, from 6pm at Bowral Bowling Club. GET YOUR TIX

A confident performer having toured pubs and clubs for over 20 years Nationally,  Jo now prefers a quieter setting to showcase her intimate songs if not playing at a folk or country music festival. Host of The Old Mill & Railway Sessions, ticketed singer-songwriter style shows held at the Penrose Hall, Jo built a platform where her music could be appreciated in a sympathetic environment. The shows have attracted some of our best blues/roots and country music artists such as Bill Chambers, Kevin Bennett, Allan Caswell and Harry Hookey and prove to be an ongoing success.

You can also find Jo performing with Amber Kenny. The Southern Highlands’ pair met locally two years ago and have been providing audiences with a fun and engaging showcase of their original music as Kenny Caseley duo.

Jo will release her third album High on Heartstrings under her own independent label Flynnella Records with the first single, Houseless Never Homeless expected for release April 2023. Houseless Never Homeless was co-written with Bill Chambers (ARIA winner, Golden Guitar winner and father of Kasey Chambers) 10 years ago. Until now, it lay dormant in a closed book along with hundreds of other songs from the prolific writer. The songs may have been collecting dust for some time, but Caseley never felt any rush to release them, preferring instead to wait for the right time to bring them to life.

Her previous two self-released albums Albany (2016) and Dusty Dirt Track (2010) are available for purchase through her website or from all streaming platforms.
