Harden Murrumburrah Artists’ Talks

Artist’s talk by three leading creatives living in Harden- Murrumburrah where the arts are making a difference.

Master Sculptor: Carl Valerius is a nationally recognised master sculptor and creator of Bill the Bastard a life size bronze statue of Australia’s greatest warhorse. 

Arts Visionary: Eliza Wells returned home to Hilltops in 2023 to start the Third Space Studio a Community Arts and Cultural Development (CACD) space in Harden. Eliza will be talking about coming home, the importance of Community Arts and Cultural Development in regional Australia and an introduction to current and proposed projects.

Musical Maestro: Stewart Bruce is a regular accompanist for the Hilltops Choir and serves on the Board of Silo Sounds. Stewart will talk about his career & the Silo Sounds collective of accomplished musicians and music lovers residing in Harden.

The event includes a free morning tea homemade by Fay Valerius so please RSVP your intention to attend.

About our Presenting Creatives

Carl Valerius

Carl’s work is installed at the National Museum of Australia, Darling Harbour and along tourist routes throughout New South Wales.
His most recent significant work produced in 2020 is a life size bronze statue of ‘Bill the Bastard’, Australia’s greatest warhorse which is now installed in front of Carl’s studio in Harden-Murrumburrah.  Through his public civic works he helps to bring Australia’s significant history into the present.

Eliza Wells

 

Eliza Wells recently founded ‘Third Place Studio’, a Community Arts Studio in Harden-Murrumburrah. For 25 years, Eliza has worked as a lecturer, author, advocate, consultant, public programmer and now filmmaker – always exploring the benefits of creativity, arts and psychology on wellbeing. Her workplaces include UNSW Arts, Design & Architecture, AFTRS, NAVA and Art Month Sydney. Her book ‘Lazing on a Sunday Crafternoon’ was published internationally via Allen and Unwin.Find Out more about Third Place Studio

Stewart Bruce

Stewart is an accomplished musician and former Director of Young Regional School of Music (now Young regional Conservatorium). He brings a lifelong passion for music to his role on the Board of Silo Sounds which delivers a program of concerts and educational opportunities for the Hilltops Community.   Stewart is well known in the area for his long-standing work as a regular accompanist and leading light behind the Hilltops Choir
