Stories from the Studio: Hangama Obaidullah
We have a real treat for you this week with poet, writer and visual artist Hangama Obaidullah. We visited Hangama at the Queanbeyan Hive where she is currently one of the exhibiting artists in the ‘Alchemy’ exhibition. Hangama consented to read one of her poems in her mother tongue of Farsi.
Hangama’s work draws on the rich culture and history of her homeland Afghanistan. When Hangama came to Australia from Afghanistan as a refugee in August 2003 she spoke no English, she is now an award winning artist and advocate for migrant women and refugees. Her goal is to assist other women and children from culturally and linguistically diverse background though her visual arts practice and her writing.
More about ALCHEMY presentated by Rebus Theatre and Project Alchemy.
We warmly invite you to hear Hangama recite her work at the QBN Hive where she will be joined by other Persian Artists and performers on Saturday 9 March. This rich event is a celebration of culture and something you really won’t want to miss!
