Elizabeth Burton: Stories from the Studio

This week STA had the pleasure of visiting Elizabeth Burton in her gorgeous and inspiring studio! Elizabeth is an artist and printmaker from the picturesque Southern Highlands, Australia. Elizabeth’s artwork is inspired by her relentless travelling, having lived in Sydney, Florence, London, Hobart, and Brisbane. Over the last three decades she has built a reputation as one of the country’s highly sought after creatives.

Elizabeth’s award winning works have featured in a number of interior design and art publications, and been exhibited internationally.

“My passion right now is abstraction… I call it intuitive abstraction. I start a painting without a concrete idea, perhaps there is a colour scheme involved. Then I let the painting evolve and see where it takes me!

Elizabeth is  opening her studio this long weekend – Saturday, Sunday and Monday 10am to 4pm.

“I’m looking forward to opening my studio and sharing my most recent work in the environment where I create.  Some artworks are inspired by my travels and the local landscape. Some relate to rhythm in the way we live, and from the nature from around the southern highlands.”

” I also enjoy classical oil painting and am inspired by my garden and surrounding landscape”

Elizabeth has an upcoming show in Florence in September, featuring her new abstract paintings and will be teaching new techniques in abstraction and making artist books with students.

Find out more about Elizabeth and the work that she creates at her website elizabethburton.com.au and instagram @elizabethburtonartist. Works can also be purchased via her Facebook and online store.
