Stories from the Studio: Desmond Freeman

This week at Stories from the Studio we visit Desmond Freeman in his studio! Desmond studied art and design at the National Art School, Sydney and later graduated with a Master of Arts from the prestigious Royal College of Art, London. While working as a designer in London, Sydney, Hong Kong, Dubai and Singapore he earned a reputation as a leading interior and museum designer never abandoning his passion for painting and drawing. Desmond’s career includes academic appointments as Professor of Design and Head of the Design School at the University of Technology, Sydney and leadership of the Design Institute of Australia, twice as Federal President, President of the Australian Academy of Design and Chairman of the Royal Society of Arts NSW.  He is currently a member of the Academic Board and Chairman of the Scholarly Activity and Research of the Virtu Design Institute.

Desmond’s work  is currently exhibiting at Bowral Art Gallery from Dec 1 – 5. Having not been able to have any exhibitions for the last few years, Desmond has accumulated more works than he can store! This will be in effect a ‘stockroom sale’ along with some interesting merchandise including new, beautifully boxed Venice, Paris and Rome sets of 20 postcards and a range of 5 stylish coffee mugs replete with some of his black and white drawings.

“I do hope you and your friends can make it along to see the exhibition which will be opened by dear friend Susan Brindle, Chair of Southern Tablelands Arts has very kindly agreed to open the exhibition”

“We have had great  fun with past exhibitions and I hope this will be no exception”
