Theatrical Splendor Unfolds Across Our Region

The STA region is set to become a vibrant hub of cultural activity in 2024, with the launch of two highly anticipated theatre programs and the development of a new Performing Arts Centre in Picton.

Goulburn Performing Arts Centre (GPAC)

The 2024 Season at GPAC promises to be a celebration of artistic excellence and community engagement. Notable highlights include the return of Opera Australia for the second consecutive year, featuring the timeless classic, La Boheme. Audiences can also anticipate the comeback of renowned companies such as Bell Shakespeare and the Australian Chamber Orchestra. A special treat awaits as The Australian Ballet graces the GPAC stage for the first time.

For the younger audience, there are specially programmed Kids’ shows, along with delightful Morning Melodies and Matinees, ensuring a diverse array of entertainment for all ages. Local talent will shine as well, with the return of companies like Bladwell Productions and Rocky Hill Musical Theatre Company, alongside the debut of the Hume Conservatorium.

In a significant milestone, the 2024 Season proudly welcomes its first Season Sponsor, the Goulburn Soldiers Club, reflecting GPAC’s commitment to fostering connections within the community. As GPAC embarks on another year of artistic innovation and community collaboration, the 2024 Season is poised to captivate audiences, leaving an indelible mark on the cultural landscape of Goulburn and beyond. Queanbeyan Performing Arts Centre (The Q)

Described by The Q’s artistic director Jordan Best as “like a big colourful mixtape of life,” the 2024 season promises to be a vibrant and diverse tapestry of performances. The Q’s lineup for 2024 is rich and varied, with four mainstage offerings from local artists, including comedy, solo shows, and musicals. The season opens with the return of comedian Garry Starr in “Greece Lightning,” a comedic attempt to perform all of Greek Mythology to save his Hellenic homeland.

The Locals season at The Q kicks off with “Happy Meals, Happy Kids,” followed by a theatrical invitation to the funeral of Cameron Ribbons in “Eulogiser Bunny.” The lineup also features dance, music, and thought-provoking plays, such as “The Will To Be,” exploring a historical perspective on homosexuality in 1962.

From comedy concerts for all ages to classic R&B performances, The Q promises an eclectic mix of entertainment throughout the year. The season concludes with Echo Theatre’s presentation of Shakespeare’s classic “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” in November, directed by Jordan Best herself. Head to

Wollondilly’s New Performing Arts Centre

Wollondilly’s cultural landscape is about to undergo a transformation with the construction of a new Performing Arts Centre in Picton. Mayor Matt Gould and council members recently marked the beginning of the construction phase with a symbolic “sod turn.” The 350+ seat Performing Arts Centre, a key component of the Wollondilly Cultural Precinct project, will be a multi-format venue for music, theatre, exhibitions, and civic events. Expected to inject vitality into Picton and the wider Wollondilly area, the centre is poised to become the jewel in the crown of the Cultural Precinct. Funded by grants and developer contributions, the completion of the Performing Arts Centre marks the conclusion of stage one of the Wollondilly Cultural Precinct, aiming to be a modern hub of cultural experiences for residents, visitors, and businesses alike.
