Before a single spray of paint hit the tables, the creative journey began at Tyger Gallery with a hands-on workshop ‘The Voice of Youth’ led by local Yass artist Sara Phemister. Young people from across the community were invited to get involved, share ideas, experiment with patterns and create bold designs. The workshop wasn’t just about art, it was about connection, collaboration and giving local youth a voice in shaping a public space they know and love.

The designs developed during the workshop became a springboard of inspiration for emerging artist Calvin Morgan, who translated those ideas into striking tabletop murals throughout Coronation Park. Each table now tells a story, reflecting youthful creativity, local talent and a shared sense of pride in place.

Yass Valley Council played a key role carefully cleaning, preparing and undercoating the tables to give Calvin a fresh canvas to work from, that teamwork ensured the artwork would not only look great, but last for years to come. Calvin’s finished murals now officially join the PAINT THE TOWN Street Art Tour, replacing the faded remnants of earlier tabletop paintings and giving this much-loved park a bold new chapter. The refreshed tables invite locals and visitors alike to sit, connect, picnic and enjoy art in this beautiful setting.

This project is a celebration of what happens when artists, young people, organisations and council come together, proof that community-led creativity can transform shared spaces across our region and make them even more fabulous for everyone to enjoy.
