Stories from the Studio: Kerry McInnis
It was an absolute pleasure to visit Kerry McInnis at her studio in Bungendore. Kerry is an established painter with a national profile living in Bungendore with her partner, sculptor Mike MacGregor.
Right from the start their home is clearly a creative haven, with a garden full of Michael’s sculpture leading to Kerry’s studio. The large light filled space has been perfectly tailored by Kerry as a place where she can work on the large canvases that are all around. It’s warm and inspirational much like the artist herself.
The space also includes room for others to join Kerry for a range of facilitated workshops where the artist shares her extensive expertise to a very eager audience of artists. From beginners to more experienced painters, all are welcome to spend time with Kerry to learn from a master in the art of gesture and light in paint.
If you think spending creative time with Kerry in her studio sounds like heaven then we recommend following her over instagram for a chance to grab a place when the next workshop is announced. @kerry_mcinnis

Kerry is a finalist in this year’s prestigious Archibald Prize. Kerry McInnis’s subject is Savanhdary Vongpoothorn, a Lao–Australian painter and installation artist known for her perforated canvases and intimate works on paper. This is the second time Kerry has been hung in the prize. The first being a portrait of Omar Musa the Malaysian-Australian rapper and poet from Queanbeyan.
Archibald Prize 2025 on display at the AGNSW until 17 August 2025. For the first time, there are more finalist works by women artists than men in each of the Archibald, Wynne and Sulman Prize competitions.
Watch out for an exhibition by Kerry and Mike coming up in 2026 at Belco Arts Centre in the ACT.
