Stories From the Studio: Jake Livingston – Yass Library

STA recently caught up with Jake Livingston, Coordinator of Library Services, to learn more about the new Yass Valley Library, a state-of-the-art community hub located within the Crago Mill Precinct at 209 Comur Street, Yass. Officially opened to the public on 9 May 2026, the purpose-built facility has transformed library services in the region, offering a modern, welcoming space designed to connect, learn and create.

The new library is a standout feature of the precinct, combining extensive physical collections with updated digital resources, online databases and technology services. Visitors can access dedicated study areas, conference and meeting rooms, an arts and craft space, a parent’s room, and a vibrant children’s area designed to encourage early learning and family engagement.

As part of an integrated precinct that also includes the new Yass Valley Council Chambers and an Emergency Operations Centre, the library provides an accessible, multi-purpose destination for residents and visitors alike.
Built on the traditional lands of the Ngunnawal people, the precinct celebrates both community and heritage. Located on the historic Crago Mill site, once the commercial heart of Yass’s flour and cereal industry, the new library honours the past while creating a focal point for the future. It is set to become a place where people of all ages can come together to connect, learn, work and participate in community life.
