On Saturday, 4 September 2021 Local Government Elections will take place across NSW. The extraordinary contribution of the regional cultural sector is an important issue this coming election.
Our local elected councillors have a huge impact on the cultural outcomes and opportunities in your community.
STA will deliver an Arts & Cultural Report Card on your local candidates before the election to help you make an informed choice with your all important vote.
If you are thinking about running for local council you can visit the Office of Local Government to find out more or attend a pre-election candidate session.
Local Government – Pre-Candidate Briefing Session are available for the below dates in July, 2021:
- Tuesday 15 June – Hilltops
- Tuesday, 6 July at 6:00pm – Upper Lachlan Shire Council, 44 Spring Street Crookwell ,NSW
- Wednesday, 7 July at 6:00pm – Goulburn Mulwaree Council, 184 Bourke St, Goulburn, NSW
- Thursday, 8 July at 6:00pm – Yass Valley Council, 209 Comur Street, Yass, NSW
- Wednesday, 21 July- Wollondilly
- Wingecarribee, advice for interested persons
- QPRC advice for interested persons. (not current regional arts network members)
Information sessions are for anyone who is;
- interested in becoming a Councillor
- seeking an understanding of the role and responsibilities of an elected member
These informative sessions will be about what it is like to be a councillor, including:
- The Integrated Planning & Reporting system
- Council meeting procedures and the rules of debate
- Relationships between Councillors and staff
- Conflicts of interest (Pecuniary, Non-pecuniary & Lobbying)
- Expenses and Allowances
- Access to key staff
- Training
You will also receive an information pack containing information to help you decide whether running for council is for you.
