Stories From the Studio: Leah Reeves

Leah Reeves is a proud Gamilaraay woman, devoted wife and mother who lives with her family on Wiradjuri Country in Young, New South Wales. Living with a rare autoimmune disorder has resulted in Leah becoming legally blind, but it has never diminished her passion for creativity, culture, and connection to Country.

As a legally blind Indigenous artist, Leah uses high-powered magnification to create her intricate artworks, allowing her to produce the detailed dot work in her artwork. Leah’s art acts as a connection to country as a ‘Vision’ of places she can no longer visit.

Leah signs all of her artwork with “beezneez,” a cherished childhood nickname that remains close to her heart. Her personal belief is that true vision is not determined by what we see with our eyes, but by what we see with our minds.
