Stories From the Studio: Jodie Munday – Mob In Focus

Southern Tablelands Arts is shining a spotlight on Aboriginal creativity through the Mob in Focus program, led by newly appointed Aboriginal Arts Officer Jodie Munday. A passionate and multi-disciplinary visual artist, Jodie brings a rich and evolving creative practice to the role. Working across drawing, photography, printmaking, pottery, wood burning and painting, she often combines these techniques into layered mixed media works. Her art is deeply inspired by nature, capturing wildlife, flora, rural landscapes and patterns found in the environment, while also reflecting her Celtic, Aboriginal and British heritage.

As Jodie’s first major project with STA, Mob in Focus has become a vital platform supporting Aboriginal creatives. The 2026 program, Mob in Focus: Holding Space, invited artists to undertake an Artist in Residence at Home, responding to the theme of “Holding Space” in a time marked by social and economic uncertainty. Each artist was supported with a professional fee, recognising their cultural and creative contributions.
The resulting works, now presented in a vibrant online showcase, offer powerful reflections on care, resilience and community, highlighting the strength and diversity of Aboriginal voices across the STA region.

Jodie’s journey in the arts began in high school and has continued through years of study, experimentation and professional practice, including the establishment of her business, Cr8ive Art, in 2011. While raising a young family led to a pause in her career, her return to creative work has been shaped by a strong belief in art as a tool for expression, cultural education and connection, communication and wellbeing, an approach that informs her work with artists across the region.
