The National Trust (NSW) presents the touring exhibition, ‘Georgian Glass: Colonial Style’ of the Havelberg-Smith collection of Georgian era glassware (c. 1700-1840), bequeathed to the National.
The exhibition consists of over 40 pieces from the collection, including glasses, rummer glasses, jugs, serving ware and candlesticks. The collection highlights stylistic changes in English glass, driven by advances in technology and changes in the way people ate, drank and socialised. It surveys major changes in style and taste during the Georgian era,as well as the technology of glass making during this era. Glass was scarce in Colonial Australia until about 1800 when more ships carrying goods for sale began to arrive.
The beauty, skill, refinement and expertise of Georgian glass will be on display in Goulburn for the first time.
Open: Monday and Thursday – 10am to 2pm
