With something for all ages, spectators can expect a remarkable cultural experience combined with breathtaking performing arts, local music, market stalls and food vendors. As night falls, the free family event encourages visitors, locals, friends and families to stroll through the picturesque town of Picton taking in the enchanted ambiance as an amazing range of local artworks are projected onto landmark buildings to illuminate the historic town.
In the days leading up to the event, Wollondilly Arts Group together with local artists hold a 3 day Art Exhibition in the Picton Shire Hall which showcases the rich talent of the area. The exhibition is held from Friday 28 April, Saturday 29 April and Sunday 30 April.
The Picton Chamber of Commerce will partner with Council to hold a Family Fun Day in the Picton RSL Park which will keep the kids entertained with a community BBQ, jumping castle and other children’s attractions. As the sun sets, the Anzac Memorial and Gum Trees will be glowing with coloured lights with activities continuing on after sunset. As the town is glowing in illuminations, children and adults proudly march in the Lantern Parade with paper lanterns they have made in workshops and master classes captivating the audience with their creations. The finale is a fireworks spectacular over the historic town capping off a night of colour, light and creativity.
Wollondilly Shire Council and its innovative team behind Macarthur’s most extraordinary illuminating creation, encourages spectators to immerse themselves in what has now become one of the most exciting annual experiences on Wollondilly’s cultural calendar, designed to promote public awareness and appreciation of the Southern Regions emerging artists.
